Village d'Antan in Drummondville

I went to do a visit with the family at a village that recreates the period of 1810-1930 in the region of the province of Québec.  We went to visit le Village d'Antan in Drummondville, Québec and it was a very informative visit, recreating a typical village of that period in the province I live.

For sure I had a certain focus for woodworking or relating posts so here we go :

We started in the Wood Shop of village and found interesting tools used around that period.  The first picture depicts a work bench with a leg vise on the left side (supposing the worker was right handed).  Different from our version but still is use by many....  including myself.

Included is a video of a hand operated Band saw.  The hand crank is on the lower wheel and does not differ too much mechanically from todays models.  A bit less secure but did not have multiple horse powered motors on them :-)

Another model of a band saw was found in a later visited building, showing more mechanical items, including this motored bandsaw of the early 1900s

Visiting the other building and houses provided multiple occasion to see the furniture of the period.  Multiple cabinets based on frame and panels to store linens and clothes.  Tables of Multiple designs were done with various details.  Smaller cabinets found in the Apothecary to store different medicines of the time.

Another place that was pretty nice to visit was the sawyers where they would prepare the lumber to be used around the village.  The saw was still in action, based on a water powered turbine, it would saw the different timber that would be presented to it.  View the small video to see it in operation.
